Covid-19 Booster FAQ’s

Who can get a Covid-19 booster?

From the recent changes announced on Sunday 12th December 2021, anyone over 18. The booster is being offered to those most vulnerable first and will then be rolled down to younger age groups. Your appointment should be at least 3 months from your last dose, but you may be called later depending on your age group.

Which vaccine will we be offering?

You will be given a booster dose of either Pfizer or Moderna vaccine. Both vaccines boost well and have already been given to millions of people in the UK. Studies have shown that you only need a half dose of Moderna to boost the immune system well. This half dose of Moderna is expected to have a low rate of side effects including myocarditis.

You will be offered the right vaccine for you, which may be the same or different from the vaccines that you had before.

How can I book my Covid-19 booster?

Most patients will have received a text message with a link to book their booster. If we do not have a mobile number or your number has changed, and you need to book a booster you can:

• Call our Covid line on 01275 345863 – This is open 9:30am – 2pm Monday to Friday
• Email us bnssg.mendipvale.scanners@nhs.net with your name, date of birth and contact number. We will call you will available appointments.
• Book at the National Booking System Book or manage a coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccination – NHS (www.nhs.uk)

Please try and not call the surgery for Covid-19 queries or bookings.

Why should I get a booster?

A booster dose of the coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine helps improve the protection you have from your first 2 doses of the vaccine.

It helps give you longer-term protection against getting seriously ill from COVID-19.

Can I also get a ‘flu vaccine at the same time?

If you are eligible for a ‘flu vaccine we can give you this when you attend for your Covid-19 booster.

Can I just turn up?

To avoid traffic congestion, and to ensure we maintain safe social distancing we ask that you attend a booked appointment at the time given.

Can I get a first or second dose of the Covid-19 vaccine?

If you’ve not yet had both doses of vaccine and are over 18 you can book an appointment for your vaccine. You can do this by calling the Covid line on 01275 345863 or emailing us at bnssg.mendipvale.scanners@nhs.net with your name, date of birth and contact number. We will call you will available appointments.

Will there be further clinics?

We aim to get all our patients vaccinated in December to achieve the government target, if this is not possible further clinics will be planned in January 2022.
