Repeat Prescriptions

Langford Surgery, Pudding Pie Lane

Repeat prescriptions can be ordered in the following ways:

By registering for on-line patient access service via the link at the top of this page.

Use the prescription counterfoil. Tick the items you require and hand back the counterfoil, with repeat items ticked, to the dispenser.

Post the completed counterfoil to us.

Drop the completed counterfoil into the repeat prescriptions box inside Pudding Pie Lane Surgery or when the Surgery is closed post it through the letterbox on the side of the main door porch to Pudding Pie Lane Surgery.

Prescription requests will only be accepted 10 days before your prescription is due.

Please remember we ask for 72 working hours turnaround time when ordering medications. We cannot accept verbal requests by phone. For those patients who request online this is reduced to 48 working hours.

Following guidelines from our Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) and to ensure we reduce the chance of costly waste of medications we prescribe repeat medications for 28 days at a time. Should there be circumstances where a greater quantity is required for holiday etc. we can look at increasing this as a one off.

The CCG website gives further information about the high cost of medicines waste each year.

Dispensing

We can dispense prescriptions for all patients who live over one mile [as the crow flies] from the nearest chemist, if they elect for us to do so. The Practice has developed a Formulary which is a list of the most suitable and effective drugs used to treat various conditions and illnesses. As new drugs come on the market we may decide to alter your medication and you may find that the name of your drugs has changed. We have a team of trained dispensers who will answer your queries about medications and dispense drugs to be collected from the surgery. To avoid errors we do not accept verbal requests over the telephone.

28-day Repeat Prescribing

There is currently a nationwide NHS campaign to tackle wasted medicines (www.medicinewaste.com). Wasted or unused medicine is a serious and growing problem within the NHS that we can all help tackle. It is estimated that as much as £300million is wasted every year on unused or partially used medication.

One initiative the Practice has undertaken to both ensure the careful monitoring of medicines, and support this national campaign, is a 28-day prescribing policy. If you have regular repeat medication, you will now receive this in a one month supply.

28-day prescribing allows the GP, Nurse or Pharmacist to carefully review all of the repeat medicines to see if you might be having problems with any of them. 28-day prescribing also reduces the amount of medicine which is currently wasted when treatments are stopped or changed. We are happy to realign your prescription to stop you having to make several visits a month to the surgery because your medicines run out at different times. We can also set up repeat dispensing with your community pharmacy. Please speak to the team to find out more.

The vast majority of patients collecting repeat prescriptions do not pay prescription charges; therefore there will be no difference to you in terms of cost. If you do have to pay prescription charges, and need more than 5 prescription items in 4 months (or 14 prescription items in 12 months), the best way to pay for prescriptions would be to obtain a Prescription Prepayment Certificate (PPC), which the Pharmacist or Receptionist can provide you.
