We aim to answer our phones promptly and treat you courteously on the phone and at the desk. When making a request to book an appointment our reception team will always enquire about your symptoms. This is so they can help ensure that you are seen by the most appropriate clinician. If you need a same day appointment you will be given a choice of having a face to face appointment for a telephone call. All emergencies will be passed to the duty doctor for that day.
Appointments are for ten minutes. The Doctor is generally only able to deal with one problem at a time, so please prioritise the problem causing you the most concern.The Practice also offers telephone appointments. Please remember that some of our clinical team work part-time, so are not in the practice every day.
We operate an appointment system for all surgeries, which run throughout the day. The GPs offer a mixture of pre-bookable and same day appointments. You can request to be seen at any of our sites.
To book an appointment please telephone, come into the surgery or request a password to enable you to make an appointment online.
Pre-bookable appointments can be booked up to 6 weeks in advance. Afternoon appointments are either pre-bookable or available to book on the day.
When booking an appointment with the doctor or nurse, you will be asked if you would mind telling us briefly the problem. This will help the receptionist a) ensure you are seen urgently if it is deemed necessary – e.g. if you have chest pain, or b) seen by the correct team member if requesting a nurse appointment – e.g. specific things such as coil fits are not performed by all members of staff. Please rest assured all staff are governed by the same rules with respect to confidentiality, as are the clinicians - this is merely to ensure we provide you with the best possible appointment.
Please let us know if you wish to cancel an appointment so that we can offer it to someone else.
When your chosen doctor is unavailable, you will be offered an appointment with another doctor.
Some of our doctors have other commitments and may not always be available but we will always offer you an appointment with another doctor. When appropriate you may also be offered and appointment with one of our very experienced nurse practitioners, community paramedic or mental health nurse.

Emergencies during surgery hours
If you need urgent medical care, please tell the receptionists that it is an urgent problem – you will always be seen the same day. For routine problems or ongoing illnesses, please make a routine pre-bookable appointment.
There are some problems that can be dealt with over the phone and we would like to encourage you to book a telephone consultation with a GP where appropriate. When you book a telephone appointment you will be given an approximate time that the doctor will telephone you.
Requesting a Home Visit
Home visits have to be fitted in during the working day, unless it is an emergency. Please telephone before 10.30 a.m. if you need the doctor to visit, and only request a visit if you really are too ill to attend the Practice. We can see at least 4 people in the surgery in the time it takes to do one home visit in this rural area, and we have better facilities for diagnosis and treatment in the surgeries.
There is a minor injuries unit at Clevedon hospital where the following can be treated:
- Broken bones (there is an x-ray facility on site)
- Minor injuries resulting from minor road traffic accidents
- Minor injuries arising from domestic violence
- Sprains, bruises and abrasions
- Head injuries (no loss of consciousness)
- Simple eye trauma e.g. foreign bodies
- Removal of foreign bodies
- Minor injuries in children over three years of age.
